STAFF SPOTLIGHT: SERGIO FIGUEROA
Cyber Tech Teacher at Iver C Ranum Campus

Sergio is a great choice for the first Staff Spotlight. His commitment to Cyber Security and his commitment to the Iver C Ranum An Innovation Campus kick the school year off right. Sergio is teaching the first CTE students from Westy on the new campus with a remodeled classroom loaded with state-of-the-art equipment destined to make the hands-on lab experience a great one for the hundreds of students who will receive quality and enriching career training in this state-of-the-art facility. “It has been an exciting launch. I am so honored to be teaching at the new Ranum facility,” proclaims Sergio. “This is going to be a tremendous opportunity for all our students.”

Born in Puerto Rico, Sergio and his wife, Colorado STEM Academy Principal Karina Costa, moved to Colorado to explore new opportunities and increase the quality of his life. He and Karina were working 6 jobs between them just to make ends meet including working in IT, teaching, tutoring, and Sergio’s passion - deejaying! Moving to Colorado and working for Westminster Public Schools was a significant decision for Sergio and his family. They are thriving here, including watching Kaira succeed in school too. This year, she is a Level 5 student at Westminster Academy of International Studies. On top of being a cyber tech teacher, a dad, a deejay, and a husband, Sergio is getting his doctorate from CU Denver! With Karina’s doctorate in the final “all but dissertation” stage, we can say with certainty that the Figueroas are one smart family!

Lottie Wilson, CTE Administrator, writes, “Sergio Figueroa is passionate about the computer science industry and the opportunities that it holds for our students after graduation. He has designed the new Cyber-Technology pathway that will be offered at the Iver C. Ranum Innovation Campus and students are excited to be a part of it! We know the future looks bright for those students and it’s thanks to his dedication and diligence on the part of WPS!”
