Ranum Teacher Wins National Science Award
Iver C. Ranumn Innovation Campus teacher, Scott Troy, was awarded the 2026 Aerospace Physiology Society Partnership in Education Award.

Scott Troy leads the Biotechnology program at the Ranum Innovation Campus. He was chosen for this award because of his work connecting students to real-world science, including cancer research at the CU Anschutz Medical Center.

In Mr. Troy’s classroom, students don't just read about science...they do it. He works hard to show students that titles like "biomedical engineering" are just jobs held by regular people. "I really hope that all of our students get a chance to see and feel that what they're doing here is not a simulation," Troy said. "It's actually doing something for the good of the medical world outside this building."

Mr. Troy also teaches his students that their own backgrounds are a strength. He reminds them that being bilingual is a "tremendous skill set" that the medical field desperately needs.

While the award is a national honor for Mr. Troy, he says he didn't do it alone. He credits the other teachers and staff at Westminster Public Schools for making the program a success. "This really is a team sport," Troy said. "There's so much that we do that you cannot do on your own."

The Aerospace Physiology Society will hold its annual meeting in Denver this year. On May 19, scientists from across the country will visit the Ranum Innovation Campus to tour Mr. Troy’s classroom and honor his hard work.

This award proves that Westminster Public Schools is a leader in preparing students for high-paying, important careers in science and medicine.
